Two Cocks Brewery Feeling the pleasure of free-range funkiness

The challenge:

Create an eco-friendly ‘cottage brand’ for two Soho entrepreneurs that could span a wide range of categories including sauces, relishes, jam and beers.

Our thinking:

Most ‘locally produced’ food brands are twee and very self-conscious. They have a very personal tone of voice, often trying to replicate Innocent Smoothies’ self-deprecating charm. We recommended changing the game in this market with a bolder approach that creates a sense of urban sophistication and quirkiness, but within a countryside setting.

The identity features a variety of cockerel images that are capable of being reproduced in line with supply and demand, to give the brand a feeling the pleasures of funky free-range foodiness. A range of three beers has been added to the range, including a special edition for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, featuring actual feathers sourced from the farm adding unusual texture to the bottles.

Its Impact

The brand gained listings in Selfridges, Marco Pierre White’s restaurants and a range of independent delicatessens on the strength of the design alone.
